The Gwangju Metropolitan Council’s Special Committee on Artificial Intelligence Demonstration Cities (Chairperson Kang Su-hoon, hereinafter the AI Special Committee) has officially appointed a ‘Policy Advisory Group’ to review Gwangju Metropolitan City’s AI policies and explore directions for their development.
This Policy Advisory Group is composed of experts from the working and academic sectors, including AI-related businesspeople, professors, and researchers. Moving forward, they will examine the direction of AI policies promoted by Gwangju Metropolitan City at the council level, provide opinions for policy improvement, and conduct consultations and special lectures.
The introduction of digital appointment certificates utilizing blockchain technology during this appointment process has garnered significant attention. The Council issued blockchain-authenticated appointment certificates to apply new technologies to legislative activities; the relevant technology was provided by Vaisen, a local company possessing blockchain mainnet technology and having registered the nation's first patent for a blockchain-based QR card. Blockchain-based letters of appointment are significant as a new initiative that prevents forgery and enhances reliability by providing a secure method for digitally recording and verifying the fact of appointment.
Chairman Kang Su-hoon stated, “While Gwangju aims to be a national AI hub city, detailed oversight and professional analysis are absolutely necessary during the policy implementation process.” He added, “With the appointment of the Policy Advisory Group, the Council will further strengthen its oversight and support functions to respond to the changes of the AI era.”
Furthermore, Chairman Kang emphasized, “We will systematically examine Gwangju’s overall AI policies through meetings, policy debates, and special lectures by experts, and continuously monitor the situation to ensure that opinions from the field translate into practical policies.”
The Special Committee on AI plans to hold its first meeting with the Policy Advisory Group in December to listen to their opinions, and in January of next year, it intends to directly inspect the implementation status of major projects through on-site visits to support the incorporation of those findings into city administration.
